ABSTRACT

The socioeconomic characteristics of the community in the Bengawan Solo Hulu watershed allow the agribusiness MSMEs business process to occur in production and significantly impact aspects of socioeconomic life. The limited reliable sources of income will affect the community's tendency to repressive actions. The purpose of the study is (1) to determine the sociodemographic conditions of agribusiness MSME households, (2) to determine the effect of the season on the achievement of agribusiness MSME output, and (3) to find out the solutions of Agribusiness MSMEs. The research method used was a survey on Agribusiness MSMEs by taking locations in 2 Sub-watershed, Alangunggahan Sub-Watershed (Eramoko District) and Keduang Sub-Watershed (Jatipurno District and Jatisrono District) with a total sample of 60 MSMEs. The analysis used is the input-output analysis and Econometric analysis. The results showed that the R2 value was 87.14%, the F test was significant at 95%, and all sociodemographic variables were significant except the age factor of Agribusiness MSME actors. There is a significant seasonal difference in the achievement of agribusiness MSME output. This phenomenon indicates that post-Covid, efforts have risen from the Covid 19, and seasonal differences are considered in decision-making efforts to increase output achievements in the Agribusiness MSME.

ABSTRACT

BackgroundIgA vasculitis (IgAV) is a rare autoimmune disease affecting small vessels. It is well established that the incidence is higher in children (3 to 26 per 100,000 children/year,) [1] than in adults (0.1 to 1.8 per 100,000 individuals/year) [1]. However others epidemiological data and impact of the COVID-19 on IgAV remain overlooked [2].ObjectivesTo collect and analyze epidemiological data on IgAV in both adults and children in France.MethodsWe conducted an observational study using a national database called "BNDMR” [3] (Banque Nationale de Données Maladies Rares) on IgA vasculitis (code ORPHA761), which gathered patients managed in the French rare disease expert network. The incidence was estimated from the date of diagnosis, and we calculated the median annual incidence over the period 2010-2022. We specifically assessed the north/south gradient (latitude of the residence higher/lower than the median of the latitudes), the seasonality, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic compared to other patients reported within the same period and addressed in the same expert centers used as controls.ResultsDuring this 12-year period, 1988 patients with IgAV were reported (1498 children;490 adults). The male to female ratio was 1.57 for adults and 1.05 for children. The median IgAV annual incidence was 15 cases/year [IQR 9-30] and 82 cases/year [IQR 72-86] for adult and children cases respectively. Time to diagnosis was less than 1 month for both. Compared with other patients reported in the same expert centers, IgAV was more frequently reported in the southern part of France than in the north (OR 4.88 [95% confidence intervals: 4.17 - 5.74] in adults and OR 1.51 [1.35 - 1.68] in children). IgAV was also more frequently observed in winter than during the rest of the year in both adults (OR 1.60 [1.39 - 1.82]) and children (OR 1.22 [1.01 - 1.48]). The incidence of IgAV decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic period (from March 2020 to September 2022) in children (OR 0.62 [0.47 - 0.81]) but not in the adult population (OR 0.90 [0.76 - 1.06]).ConclusionOur study confirms the winter seasonality and sex ratio in IgAV [4,5], but suggests that the incidence or the reporting of IgAV decreased in children during the COVID19 pandemia, possibly due to barrier measures [6]. The observed north/south gradient need confirmation. ABSTRACT

The sediments underneath Mexico City have unique mechanical properties that give rise to strong site effects. We investigated temporal changes in the seismic velocity at strong-motion and broadband seismic stations throughout Mexico City, including sites with different geologic characteristics ranging from city center locations situated on lacustrine clay to hillside locations on volcanic bedrock. We used autocorrelations of urban seismic noise, enhanced by waveform clustering, to extract subtle seismic velocity changes by coda wave interferometry. We observed and modeled seasonal, co- and post-seismic changes, as well as a long-term linear trend in seismic velocity. Seasonal variations can be explained by self-consistent models of thermoelastic and poroelastic changes in the subsurface shear wave velocity. Overall, sites on lacustrine clay-rich sediments appear to be more sensitive to seasonal surface temperature changes, whereas sites on alluvial and volcaniclastic sediments and on bedrock are sensitive to precipitation. The 2017 Mw 7.1 Puebla and 2020 Mw 7.4 Oaxaca earthquakes both caused a clear drop in seismic velocity, followed by a time-logarithmic recovery that may still be ongoing for the 2017 event at several sites or that may remain incomplete. The slope of the linear trend in seismic velocity is correlated with the downward vertical displacement of the ground measured by interferometric synthetic aperture radar, suggesting a causative relationship and supporting earlier studies on changes in the resonance frequency of sites in the Mexico City basin due to groundwater extraction. Our findings show how sensitively shallow seismic velocity and, in consequence, site effects react to environmental, tectonic and anthropogenic processes. They also demonstrate that urban strong-motion stations provide useful data for coda wave monitoring given sufficiently high-amplitude urban seismic noise.

ABSTRACT

Natural increase-the difference between births and deaths-fell fourfold in France between 2012 and 2022, reflecting a 100,000 decrease in the number of births over the last 10 years and a similar increase in the number of deaths. Life expectancy has stagnated over the last 3 years due to the COVID-19 pandemic combined with excess mortality in 2022 linked to several summer heatwaves and a seasonal flu epidemic at the end of the year. It appears that while COVID-19 had little impact on births, it temporarily modified their seasonality.

ABSTRACT

Health care prosperity is the most challenging task for human being in the present dangerous COVID scenario and the discovery proposes an augmented reality based personalized smart diet assistance system which provides diet recommendations, appropriate time, type, quantity and method of consumption of a food item diet based on user health parameters based on location and event activities. The augmented reality based system comprises a user data input, an image processing, food consumption assistance, transmissible disease information retrieval and diet planning modules. The system incorporates an AI based camera to scan a food item before or after cooking and utilizes augmented reality to indicate the nutritional information. The proposed system provides personalized diet recommendations to the user based on personal data such as height, weight, existing medical conditions and thereof of a user. The system retrieves existing transmissible diseases data from world health organizations and data from news articles about any viral infections or diseases to suggest immunity boosting foods to the user to thereby safeguard the user against such diseases or infections.

ABSTRACT

(1) Background: Rome is a municipality with an area of 1287 km2 and presents floristic-vegetational complexity that is reflected in the composition of aerospora, which are responsible for pollinosis. The presence of airborne pollen can be detected by pollen monitoring. The large extent of the city's territory makes it possible to verify possible changes in pollen composition in different sites of the city. With this in mind, a study was conducted to assess the differences in airborne pollen concentration, considering phenological and production indicators at three different sites in the city. (2) Methods: Pollen data of eight taxa were considered, Alnus spp., Castanea sativa Miller, Cupressaceae-Taxaceae, Olea europaea L., Platanaceae, Poaceae, Quercus spp., and Urticaceae, during 2020 and 2021, using three monitoring samplers. The airborne pollen concentration and the seasons of the three centers were calculated and compared with each other. (3) Results: The diversity between the three samplers shows a phenological succession in accordance with the microclimatic diversity present in the city. The heterogeneity of the airborne pollen concentration reflects the floristic-vegetational diversity, while qualitative and quantitative parameters indicate a homogeneous flowering trend reflecting the seasonality of the various species. (4) Conclusions: The present work and the Italian geographic context suggest the need for a greater number of sampling points to guarantee a true localization of the data. Having several sampling stations also contributes to the protection of health and green areas, which are difficult to manage, conserve, and maintain.

Music teachers overwhelmingly turned to a wide range of technology to respond to these mandates, from video conferencing applications to platforms for musical creativity. [...]as Kratus (2007) pointed out more than a decade ago, music education has faced a tipping point as the field negotiates between its legacy of performance-centered Western musical traditions, and the complex and evolving society it deems to serve. Similar to the United States, these changes are driven by calls in Canada for the inclusion of popular music (Countryman, 2012;Senyshyn, 2004;Wright, 2016), music technology (Gid-dings, 2020), and the belief that the introduction of these within school music education may lead to more inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogies (Bartel, 2004;Kennedy, 2000;Seddon, 2004). On top of the already present trend toward a more expansive model of music education (Hanley, 2000), the COVID-19 pandemic affected widespread change in music education, including the rapid adoption of technology to mitigate the effects of government-mandated isolation (Smith, 2020).

ABSTRACT

The cost of electricity and gas has a direct influence on the everyday routines of people who rely on these resources to keep their businesses running. However, the value of electricity is strongly related to spot market prices, and the arrival of winter and increased energy use owing to the demand for heating can lead to an increase in energy prices. Approaches to forecasting energy costs have been used in recent years;however, existing models are not yet robust enough due to competition, seasonal changes, and other variables. More effective modeling and forecasting approaches are required to assist investors in planning their bidding strategies and regulators in ensuring the security and stability of energy markets. In the literature, there is considerable interest in building better pricing modeling and forecasting frameworks to meet these difficulties. In this context, this work proposes combining seasonal and trend decomposition utilizing LOESS (locally estimated scatterplot smoothing) and Facebook Prophet methodologies to perform a more accurate and resilient time series analysis of Italian electricity spot prices. This can assist in enhancing projections and better understanding the variables driving the data, while also including additional information such as holidays and special events. The combination of approaches improves forecast accuracy while lowering the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) performance metric by 18% compared to the baseline model.

ABSTRACT

The association of temperature and air pollutants is a very prominent factor which significantly affects human health and may cause diseases such as respiratory illness, cardiovascular mortality in spreading of different pathogenic diseases. The pandemic due to covid-19 infection may be affected by temperature and concentration of pollutants. Jaipur is one of the most polluted cities in Rajasthan of India as per World Health Organization, 2016; also, Jaipur city has a hot semi-arid climate with extremely hot summers. This fact tempered us to examine the impact of the association of temperature and pollutants on corona-virus infection in humans over Jaipur. Analysis was conducted by correlating air pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, NO2, SO2, CO) on seasonal variations because the temperature is one of the major factors in changing seasons. Association between the number of Covid cases and temperature in Jaipur was observed during December 2019 to December 2020. Seasonal analysis indicated that the intensity of Covid-19 infection varied according to increase or decrease in temperature.

ABSTRACT

The paper discusses the prospects of the Open Balkan initiative for the tourism development of North Macedonia. It presents an overview of this political initiative established to improve regional economic collaboration in the Western Balkans. In 2022, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Albania signed a Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism in the Western Balkans to expand the tourism potential of a common tourism market. This study investigates the level of seasonality in terms of overnights of tourists from Serbia, and Albania between 2011-2019. Data for 2020 and 2021 are omitted due to COVID-19 pandemic break. By calculating standard indicators, the research revealed low seasonality and favorable precondition for creating sustainable regional tourism product based on cultural heritage, tradition, gastronomy, and other cultural similarities. The study further outlines the importance of establishing a single tourism market that will contribute to creating a new concept of integrated regional tourism.

BACKGROUND: In Gabon, a new national malaria control policy was implemented in 2003. It resulted in a decrease in the number of malaria cases in the country. In March 2020, the disruption of routine health services due to the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in cases and deaths due to malaria. However, in Franceville, south-east Gabon, no data on malaria cases recorded before, during and after the COVID-19 epidemic has been published. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the epidemiological characteristics of malaria in Franceville from 2019 to 2021. METHODS: A retrospectively study of malaria cases was performed at the Hôpital de l'Amitié Sino-Gabonaise (HASG). Information regarding age, gender, malaria diagnosis by microscopy and hematology cell count were collected from laboratory registers from June 2019 to December 2021. Malaria data were analyzed and correlated with seasonal variations. RESULTS: The data of 12,695 febrile patients were collected from the laboratory registers of the HASG, among which 4252 (33.5%) patients were found positive for malaria. The malaria prevalence was 37.5% in 2020 year. This prevalence was highest compared to the 2019 (29.6%) and 2021 (31.5%) year (p < 0.001). During the short rainy season (October to December), a large increase in malaria cases was observed all three year, from 2019 to 2021 (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of malaria in Franceville was very high during COVID-19 pandemic. It is therefore necessary to strengthen existing interventions and implement more effective interventions.

Purpose>This paper provides an overview and explains the context of the theme issue. The paper outlines the approach and profiles the articles written in response to the strategic question as to how the Republic of Cyprus could reduce the impact of seasonal tourism on long-term sustainable development.Design/methodology/approach>The paper outlines the approach to exploring ways of reducing the impact of seasonal tourism on long-term sustainable development in Cyprus. The strategic question is tackled in articles containing literature reviews, data and evidence reviews, interactions with practitioners and practical solutions.Findings>The findings of the theme issue focus on long-term sustainable development and the alleviation of seasonality in Cyprus. The issue provides insights into the history, current state of development and progress made by the impact of seasonal tourism and sustainable development on the tourism and hospitality industry.Originality/value>This theme issue outlines the causes and effects of seasonality in the tourism industry in a small island developing state (SIDS) that is highly dependent on income generated by tourism activity. In SIDS, where seasonality is a threatening factor for tourism development, it is essential to understand what measures can be taken to lower seasonality. The articles in this theme issue provide insights into the causes and effects of tourism seasonality, climate change, alternative and special interest tourism, future destinations and young travellers' behaviour, air transportation, the remedy to seasonality and gastro tourism.

ABSTRACT

Purpose>Air connectivity is one of the most important aspects of tourism development, especially for island state destinations (ISD) which rely on air travel for accessibility. The complexity of the tourism industry necessitates close interaction among involved stakeholders to ensure successful policy implementation of air transportation operations that facilitate tourism mobility at a destination.Design/methodology/approach>In this paper self-administered questionnaires in a structured format were distributed to 200 managers. Additionally, seven unstructured follow-up interviews were conducted to enrich the content and better support the conclusions.Findings>The results of the study suggest that air transportation and connectivity are not fully integrated with tourism policy and strategy planning. Yet it is crucial that a stakeholder approach is adopted that accounts for the needs of diverse stakeholders and airline strategies, along with a diversified tourism policy that can establish Cyprus as year-round destination.Originality/value>The role of the airline industry in overall tourism strategy and policy is examined and the unique problems and challenges ISDs like Cyprus face in developing as a tourism destination and overcoming tourism seasonality are underlined.

ABSTRACT

In order to study the pollution levels of PM2.5 and water-soluble inorganic ions(WSIIs)in the towns of southern Gansu, PM2.5 samples were collected quarterly in Cheng County of Gansu from April 2019 to February 2020. Their characteristics of variation were analyzed, and the sources were apportioned using correlation and principal component analysis. The results showed that the mean annual mass concentration of PM2.5 was(57.2±26.9)μg·m-3 in Cheng County of Gansu Province. The seasonal variation of PM2.5 concentration was represented by winter>spring>autumn>summer during the sampling period, and the concentrations in winter were about 1.9 times than that in summer. The annually good air quality rate was 81%, of which 100% in summer. The ranking of WSII concentrations was SO42->NO3->Na+>NH4+>Ca2+>K+>Cl->Mg2+.SNA is the highest water-soluble ions, accounting for 70.1% of the concentration of eight main water-soluble ions. The mean ratio of ρ(NO3-)/ρ(SO42-)was 0.6, indicating that fixed sources such as industrial and agricultural production and fossil fuel combustion emissions, was the major source for particulate pollution. During the 2019 coronavirus epidemic, control measures had a significant impact on the concentration of PM2.5 and SNA in water-soluble ions, and the mean concentration of PM2.5 was reduced by 44.2%. Source apportionment showed that WSIIs in PM2.5 were mainly from fossil fuel combustion, biomass combustion, secondary formation and road construction dust, etc. © 2022 Science Press. ABSTRACT

Introduction: Some COVID-19 vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer) have been associated with an elevated risk of myocarditis in younger adults. However, observational studies were unable to stratify by dose and had limited ability to evaluate the effect of adenovirus-based COVID-19 vaccines due to the limited distribution of these in their study populations [1-4]. Objective: Estimate the incidence rates (IR), rate differences (RD) and incidence rate ratios (IRR) of myocarditis and pericarditis before and after each dose of mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) and adenovirusplatform (AstraZeneca and Janssen) COVID-19 vaccines. Methods: We conducted a population-based cohort design with nested self-controlled risk interval (SCRI) study. Participants were followed from 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2021. Data were derived from healthcare data from five population-based data sources in four European countries: Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom (UK), and Spain. The main outcome was first occurrence of myocarditis or pericarditis. RD and IR before COVID-19 disease and after each COVID-19 vaccine dose in those without COVID-19 were calculated. The SCRI calculated IRR with 60-day control period prior to vaccination and 28-day risk windows, with adjustment for seasonality. All analyses were stratified by age (< 30 and > 30 years) and in the cohorts refined age-bands for < 30 were utilised. Results: The study cohort comprised 35,365,669 persons with median age between 39-49 years, 57.4% received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and 77.6% of these received two. Myocarditis background rates were highest in persons 18-29 years (IR 2.8, 95% CI [1.5-4.1] to 6.4 [3.8-9.0] across UK, the Netherlands and Spain, and for 12-17 years in Italy (IR = 9.9 [5.3-14.4]). Pericarditis rates were higher in persons > 30 years (standardised IR from 11.6 [10.9-12.4] to 29.7 [19.8-22.1] across databases). RD of myocarditis were significantly elevated after Moderna dose 2 in persons between 18-29 years in Italy. Significantly reduced RD of pericarditis in the age group above 30 years was seen for Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca. The SCRI showed significantly higher myocarditis IRR after dose 1 of Pfizer (IRR = 3.3 [1.2-9.4]), and also after dose 2 of Pfizer and Moderna in persons 12-29 years (IRR of 7.8 [2.6-23.5] and 6.1 [1.1-33.5], respectively). No association was observed between COVID-19 vaccination and pericarditis in the SCRI. In a sensitivity analysis, occasional significant association was seen for AstraZeneca dose 2 and myocarditis. Conclusion: Myocarditis is rare, but rates were increased significantly after both doses of Pfizer and the second dose of Moderna vaccines in persons below 30 years of age. This was not seen for pericarditis.

ABSTRACT

Around 5 % of anthropogenic radiative forcing (RF) is attributed to aviation CO2 and non-CO2 impacts. This paper quantifies aviation emissions and contrail climate forcing in the North Atlantic, one of the world's busiest air traffic corridors, over 5 years. Between 2016 and 2019, growth in CO2 (+3.13% yr-1) and nitrogen oxide emissions (+4.5 % yr-1) outpaced increases in flight distance (+3.05 % yr-1). Over the same period, the annual mean contrail cirrus net RF (204–280 mW m-2) showed significant inter-annual variability caused by variations in meteorology. Responses to COVID-19 caused significant reductions in flight distance travelled (-66%), CO2 emissions (-71%) and the contrail net RF (-66%) compared with the prior 1-year period. Around 12 % of all flights in this region cause 80 % of the annual contrail energy forcing, and the factors associated with strongly warming/cooling contrails include seasonal changes in meteorology and radiation, time of day, background cloud fields, and engine-specific non-volatile particulate matter (nvPM) emissions. Strongly warming contrails in this region are generally formed in wintertime, close to the tropopause, between 15:00 and 04:00 UTC, and above low-level clouds. The most strongly cooling contrails occur in the spring, in the upper troposphere, between 06:00 and 15:00 UTC, and without lower-level clouds. Uncertainty in the contrail cirrus net RF (216–238 mW m-2) arising from meteorology in 2019 is smaller than the inter-annual variability. The contrail RF estimates are most sensitive to the humidity fields, followed by nvPM emissions and aircraft mass assumptions. This longitudinal evaluation of aviation contrail impacts contributes a quantified understanding of inter-annual variability and informs strategies for contrail mitigation.

Wales is one of the world leaders in household waste recycling with a steady recent recycling rate of ~65%. The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) set a statutory target of achieving a 70% recycling rate by 2024/25. We reviewed historical trends in waste management in Wales from 2006 to 2020, with a focus on recycling. Authoritative, official data were obtained from WasteDataFlow, an Internet system for municipal waste data reporting by UK local authorities to government. Data are collected quarterly allowing the generation of time series plots, trendlines and like-for-like comparisons between groupings of various characteristics, such as number of separate kerbside collections, income, political preference, and impact of policy changes. Results showed that the approach taken by the WAG to politically prioritise and encourage participation in household recycling has achieved impressive results that contrast starkly with the recycling performance of other UK countries. In Wales, household waste disposed annually per person via landfill decreased from ~410 kg to <50 kg and household waste recycled increased from to ~150 kg to ~310 kg, with a recent increase in incineration with energy recovery to ~135 kg as infrastructure has come online. Recycling rates show a seasonal variation due to increases in garden waste sent for composting in the summer. There are variations in local authority performance across Wales, mainly caused by variations in the number of separate collections. Co-mingled collections tend to lead to higher contamination of recyclates that are then not able to be sold for recycling. Deprivation, as indicated by differences in income, also influences total waste arisings and recycling rates. A plateau of ~65% recycling rate was reached in 2020, with incineration reaching a rate of >25%. The recycling rate plateaus at exactly the same time as incineration comes on stream. Evidence demonstrates that improvements to recycling rates can become more difficult when incineration becomes available. Whilst further reductions and improvements to recycling in Wales will be more challenging, the WAG’s track record of focused proactive political and policy support shows what can be achieved when there is suitable political will. The WAG has demonstrated that it tends to deliver on its waste-related plans, and it clearly has the best chance of any of the UK’s four countries of achieving its aims.

Cardiac patients who did not complete a full course of palivizumab were at higher risk of contracting RSV bronchiolitis. In the observed data, the winter peak varied little in timing or magnitude from 2014 to 2019. Recent RSV seasonality is expected to have been impacted by non-pharmaceutical interventions such as social distancing to reduce the transmission of COVID-19;however, the extent of any impact is currently uncertain.The longer season observed using predicted RSV admissions highlights the importance of examining RSV-associated admissions and is most likely due to the underdiagnosis of RSV. Identifying seasonal patterns is important for future planning for the healthcare system, impacts policy decisions and budget considerations for resource allocation, and assists in planning implementation strategies for future interventions preventing RSV.

ABSTRACT

Exploring the spatial network structure of tourism flow and its influencing factors is of great significance to the transmission of characteristic culture and the sustainable development of tourism in tourist destinations, especially in backward rural areas. Taking Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture (hereinafter referred to as Qiandongnan Prefecture) as an example, this paper adopts social network analysis and Quadratic Assignment Procedure regression analysis to study the network structural characteristics and influencing factors of tourism flow using online travel blog data. The results show that: (1) There are seasonal changes in tourism flow, but the attractions that tourists pay attention to do not change with the seasons. (2) The tightness of the tourism flow network structure is poor. The core nodes are unevenly distributed, and there are obvious structural holes. (3) The density of the tourism flow network is low. There is a clear core–periphery structure in the network, and the core area has a weak driving effect on the periphery area. There are more cohesive subgroups in the network, but the degree of connectedness between the subgroups varies greatly. (4) Geographical adjacency, transportation accessibility, and tourism resource endowment influence tourism flow network structure. The study found that the influencing factors of tourism flow in rural areas are different from those in urban areas. These results provide useful information for the marketing and development of tourism management departments in rural areas.
